Flag of ThailandEvery UK document requested by Thai authorities must follow the familiar two-step route:

  1. UK FCDO apostille – this authenticates the UK signature or seal.
  2. Thai Embassy counter-stamp – the Consular Section in London adds its own legalisation on top of the apostille.

Once both stamps are present, the paperwork is ready for use anywhere in the Kingdom of Thailand.

Practical notes for Thailand

  • Photocopies – take one clear copy of each apostilled page; the Consulate keeps these on file.
  • Bundles allowed – related pages may be ribbon-bound under one notarial certificate, so they share a single apostille and a single Thai fee. Check first that your Thai recipient agrees.
  • Payment – cash or card at the counter.

  • Submission window – 09 : 00–12 : 00, Monday-Friday. A receipt gives the collection date (normally 3–4 working days later).
  • Foreign originals – the London office legalises only UK or Irish-origin documents. Anything issued elsewhere must be processed by a Thai mission in the country of origin.

Signature certification and power of attorney procedures

If you’re not a Thai national seeking to authorise a Power of Attorney or certify your signature, please be advised that the Royal Thai Embassy in London does not authenticate foreign national signatures.

The procedure requires your signature to be first signed and verified by a UK solicitor or a Notary Public. Following this, your document(s) must be legalised by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) or, for Irish nationals, the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland (DFA).

Once these steps have been fulfilled, your document(s) can be processed for authentication at the Royal Thai Embassy in London.

Translation into Thai / Siamese

The usual process is to first legalise the document and then have everything translated into Thai /Siamese.

The Thai embassy is VERY particular about translation. Absolutely EVERYTHING on a document must be translated. This includes names, places, and numbers – including the translator’s signature!
