Malaysia is not a signatory to the Apostille Hague Convention. UK documents require an apostille certificate from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) followed by legalisation at the Malaysian High Commission in London.

Processing times:

  • 1-2 days for the apostille service.
  • 3-4 days for the Malay embassy.

The UK FCDO typically processes standard Apostille applications within 1-2 working days via an apostille agency.

The Malaysian High Commission in London usually requires 3-4 working days to legalise your documents.

No expedited service is available from the High Commission.

Service fees

The FCDO charges £45 for the standard postal Apostille service, which takes about 3 weeks.

Or, £40 for the expedited ‘Next-Day’ service via an apostille agency.

The Malaysian High Commission charges £15 per document (personal and business).

Additional fees apply for apostille agency admin and courier fees.

e-Apostille

While the UK offers e-apostilles for specific documents, the Malaysian High Commission has not adopted this digital format yet. Therefore, the consulate requires a physical apostille to attest your documents.

Document translations

Translations are not required for UK documents unless specifically requested by the overseas authorities.

Document ‘bundles’

The Malaysian High Commission in London accepts document bundles.

Attesting foreign documents:

Foreign documents (non-UK documents) can be attested if:

  • 1

The foreign embassy in London has stamped the documents, and then the Malaysian Embassy can attest.

  • 2
Foreign documents must be attested by the Malaysian Embassy in the country of origin. Then the UK-Malaysian embassy can attest in London.
  • 3
The UK FCDO apostilles the documents, then the Malaysian High Commission can attest in London.
