Saudi Arabia joined the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention in 2022 — it formally signed up on 8 April 2022, and the Convention has applied there since 7 December 2022
This means that a UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) apostille typically completes the authentication chain for UK-origin documents.
Practical notes
Commercial documents. If your Saudi counterparty requires a chamber attestation, the document must follow this route after the UK apostille:
- 1Notary/solicitor certification (if not a public document).
- 2FCDO apostille.
- 3London Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) stamp.
- 4Arab-British Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) stamp.
The chambers’ combined disbursement is £78.50 per document; the lead time is about five to six working days once lodged.
