Flag of Saudi ArabiaSaudi Arabia joined the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention in 2022 — it formally signed up on 8 April 2022, and the Convention has applied there since 7 December 2022

This means that a UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) apostille typically completes the authentication chain for UK-origin documents.

Apostille processing times:

  • Standard paper: ≈ 3-4 working days (plus post)
  • Express next-day: received by 9 am → dispatched next working day
  • Premium counter *: 2–3 hours once lodged (appointment needed)

  • e-Apostille: 24–48 hours from upload

Practical notes

  • Check with the recipient first. Many Saudi authorities now accept apostilles alone, but some—especially in commerce, labour and education—still insist on additional Saudi-specific stamps. Always confirm before shipping originals.

Commercial documents. If your Saudi counterparty requires a chamber attestation, the document must follow this route after the UK apostille:

  • 1
Notary/solicitor certification (if not a public document).
  • 2
    FCDO apostille.
  • 3
London Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) stamp.
  • 4
Arab-British Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) stamp.
The chambers’ combined disbursement is £78.50 per document; the lead time is about five to six working days once lodged.
  • Educational awards. Saudi government agencies and employers will not rely on the apostilled certificate alone; they require verification from the Ministry of Education (MoE).

UK graduates must upload the apostilled degree, transcript, and a passport scan to the MoE e-platform, Mosadaqa (www.mosadaqa.sa ). The MoE issues an electronic attestation once the university’s authenticity is confirmed. No embassy visit is involved.

  • Power of Attorney: For legalisation by the Saudi Arabian Embassy in London, power of attorney/authorisation/agreement documents must show the signatory’s passport number (and any Saudi national’s ID number and any Saudi company’s registration number), every submission must include a copy of the applicant’s passport, and each document must clearly state the Saudi consignee’s name and address.

  • Medical Reports – Work Visa: Saudi Arabia requires a comprehensive medical report, and the doctors who issue it must be registered with the FCDO.

  • Translations. For court or licensing work, a sworn Arabic translation is often requested; translate only after the apostille is affixed, so the translator can attach the Arabic text to the legalised page.

  • Bundling. Saudi authorities do not accept “bundle” apostilles. Each distinct document (e.g., a certificate, transcript, or letter of support) requires its own notarial certificate and apostille.
